Prologue

Brothers and sisters, this is Treasures for the Soul. Today’s topic is The Importance of the Mind. Romans chapter 12 mentions about being “transformed by the renewal of your mind.” In Colossians chapter 3, Paul reminded us to “seek the things that are above.” He especially pointed out that Christ is seated at the right hand of God. We need to behold the Lord. Many Bible passages mentioning what our mind should pay attention to are referred in this message. The examples of David, Moses, Paul, Peter, and John all illustrate to us some important content to which our mind should pay attention. We must guard our mind diligently.

Message

Romans chapter 12 says, “be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” Our mind needs to be renewed. We must get rid of any mindsets that are incorrect or negative. Moreover, we need to renew our mind in accordance with the truth in the Bible. Therefore, if you do not read the Bible, you definitely cannot have the way for the renewal of your mind. Surely, the Holy Spirit will also remind you and help you. When you have the renewal of your mind, you will have transformation.

The way to transformation is to behold. To behold means what your spiritual eye sees. Once you see the truth, you treasure it more and you set your mind according to the truth. It will affect you to be transformed. For example, when you see that the Lord loves you so much, you will feel happier. When you are drawn by His love, all your worries are gone. His love is more than words can tell. This realization of His love and His cares for you is not complicated at all.

Being transformed is vital. We want to be transformed from glory to glory. Colossians chapter 3 says, “…seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” Among the things above, Christ the Lord is the main focus, in whom we need to be mindful of. He is the Christ. For us, He became a man, bringing to men light and truth. He is the Priest, presenting us before God, so that we can enjoy God. He is the King. Whatever conditions you are in, if you seek for His help, He can surely relieve your heart. The whole universe is under His authority. He can solve all problems, including death, Satan, evil spirits, and all wicked people.

He is the Lord; He is Jesus, the Lord Jesus. The Lord Jesus is both God and man at the same time. He is also Christ, living forever for us in heaven. He also lives in our hearts. Colossians chapter 3 says that Christ is my life. He lives in us and becomes our glorious life. He helps us and supplies all our needs. Philippians chapter 4 asks us to think about “whatever is true, whatever is honorable,” and so on. In fact, the Lord surpasses all these qualities adding up together. He is the best and we need to think about Him.

Romans chapter 8 says “set their minds on the things of the Spirit.” If we set our minds on the things of the flesh, such as “the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life” (1 John 2:16), we will not be able to walk out God’s words. The mind is extremely important. Our minds are basically connected with what our spiritual eyes see. There are only two types of people: those who set their minds on the things of the Spirit and those who set their minds on the things of the flesh. 1 Peter 1:13 says “…preparing your minds for action.” Beholding the Lord helps you not only to prepare your minds but also to occupy your minds with good thoughts. For example, you behold the Lord and realize that He is in glory, He is everywhere, and He is in our hearts at the same time, and realize that He has a deep relationship with you. In addition, you sing hymns and think of His love to you. All these help your minds to be well guarded. If you practice this, it will be impossible for you to have bad thoughts. Therefore, it is our responsibility to cooperate with the Holy Spirit. We need to rely on the Lord for all things. We need to rely on the Lord to cooperate with Him.

Psalm 45 says, “Listen, O daughter, consider;” not only listen, but also consider, putting more thoughts to it. “…and incline your ear,” paying attention to realize more and hear more clearly. “Forget your own people also, and your father’s house.” On the other hand, do not pay attention to negative things but listen to those that are positive. It states clearly what we should focus on. “So the King will greatly desire your beauty.” We will have beauty upon beauty, glory upon glory. “Because He is your Lord, worship Him.”

When Jesus was transfigured on the mountain, the disciples were told to, “Hear Him!” (Matthew 17:5) Revelation 2 and 3 state “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” We have spiritual ears. As long as we are willing to hear the Lord, we can hear Him. Hebrews 11 says Moses “endured as seeing Him who is invisible.” Moses also lived a life of faith. In Psalm 25, David emphasized setting our eyes ever toward the Lord.
